Flora And Fauna Of The Great Ocean Road Australia

Read full article | Comments Off

The Great Ocean Road Australia is for holidaymakers an exciting and diverse trip around some of Australia’s most rugged coastlines. For more than 400m, the world’s largest war memorial, a testament to the soldiers from Victoria lost in the Great War, lingers past a unique landscape of verdant rainforests, rolling sand dunes and rugged cliff tops, with visitors often taken in by wildlife they are able to spot en-route.

It is illegal to hug and be photographed with a koala in the state of Victoria, the reason being that these marsupials have extremely weak hearts and are therefore susceptible to stress. At Kennet River you have a very high chance of spotting one of these marsupials in the wild, just keep your eyes to the gum trees. If you want to see koalas nibbling on eucalyptus then head to the park in the late afternoon when the population are far more active than in the morning. In Spring you can find many mothers with young joeys in their pouches, making the season the best time to visit.

Further along the Great Ocean Road Australia you’ll find the scenic Cape Otway National Park where you can take a peek at the world’s most unique mammal – the duck-billed platypus. While many people remember from their school days that these are the only mammals in the world to lay eggs, few people realise that they are also poisonous to humans due to the spurs that they carry on the back of their feet. Visitors can often pick up Melbourne travel deals which offer discounts on excursions in the national park, where a knowledgeable tour guide will teach you about platypus while you kayak around and gain an insight into their way of life.

Sitting inside an extinct volcano, the Tower Hill Game Reserve is home to over 200 koalas and kangaroos, while emu, echidna and water birds are also in abundance. Take an alternative trip around the park on a bush survival park where an aboriginal guide can offer a different perspective on the flora and fauna.

You will find when you are travelling abroad on your gap year whether you are a volunteer or just a traveller that certain things will not be at your disposable. Showers are not usually a problem though and you can usually find them in most accommodation so don’t forget any shampoo. Most gap year destinations these days are very hot so it is important that you remember to take moisturiser with you to keep your skin healthy. Don’t forget the lippy as well for those nights out on the town where you want to sprouse yourself up a little bit to look glam.

If you are away as a volunteer abroad it is probably a good idea to take a bandana or head scarf for those bad hair days that you most certainly will have at one point or another. If you like to change your hairstyle frequently then instead why don’t you buy a number of different scarves so wear. They also protect your head from the sun preventing sun stroke.

Even if you wear a scarf or a bandana when you are volunteering in Uganda or wherever it is you are working a secret tip is to mix conditioner with water and put it in a squirty bottle so when your hair is feeling dry you can spray it on and put some nourishment back into it. To cut your baggage weight down you can mix up your lip-balm, moisturiser and sun-cream by buying sunblock that serves the purpose of all three.

There are many other items that you are able to combine to cut down your baggage weight but you must realise when you are travelling and volunteering abroad your vanity will go out of the window and you will have to deal with the fact you are not going to be able to look 100% every day. However a sun-kissed tan probably means you won’t need any make up on!

All You Need To Know About Paintball Safety

Read full article | Comments Off

Security with virtually any firearm is always a fundamental starting point.  A paintball gun is not a toy – all of them say that right on the gun itself.  Whether you’re new at paintball or a seasoned veteran of the greatest sport on the planet you always need to consider safety.  And safety with any weapon, even those airsoft bb guns, is important.  There are so many accidents each year from guns that we should always remind each other about weapon safety.

There are two main areas to be concerned with on your marker (paintball gun).  The first of course is the gun itself.  The gun by itself is not harmful but when you mix it with the human element somebody always ends up doing something stupid to make the weapon unsafe.  And the second is the air system.  If you haven’t guessed by now we are going to have a discussion about safety, and more specifically about paintball safety.  Lets get to the meat of it shall we.

The most basic safety suggestions is to always treat your marker as if it were loaded.  I’m sure that you have heard that before but lets break it down and really get to what it means.  If your gun were loaded would you point it at anybody?  Now that is a hard one but you see when we are playing a game and your opponent is 50 feet away and wearing complete safety gear then that’s one thing.  But what everyone means here is to never point it in an unsafe direction while not on the field or in the middle of a game.  So if your gun was loaded and you are not on the field and nobody around you has safety gear on would you point it at anybody?  I hope not.  Accidental discharges can kill.

Always keep the safety on when not on the field.  The safety switch on your marker is there for a reason and that reason has nothing to do with being on the field and painting your friends.  The safety switch is there so that when you are in an unsafe environment that you should have it on just in case the trigger is accidentally engaged.  BANG!  Always point your marker in a safe direction.  Whether that is pointing it down range, toward the ground or up in the air doesn’t matter but never have it pointed in a direction where if it went off someone might get hurt.Without exception, be sure that your paintball gun is unloaded if not being used.  Think about these three things for a second, if the safety were not engaged would the gun go off?  No, if you had your marker pointed in a safe direction and it did go off would anybody get hurt?  No, and if the paintball gun were not loaded and it went off is there still a chance that someone could get hurt?  Yes! If the weapon wasn’t packed however it mistakenly went off the air, the gun can still hurt someone.

Okay, what about the air system?  Most air systems are designed to hold high-pressure air and have the weapon ready to fire in an instant.  So if you remove or disengage the air system is there any chance that there is still pressure in the system?  The answer is a definite yes.  So again the above safety tips apply.  Always keep the safety on – sorry I was about to repeat the previous paragraph.  No need I’m sure you got it this time.

Lets recap; The safety – always on, always keep your paintball gun pointed in a safe direction, always point the weapon in a safe direction and never, Never NEVER assume that the gun is NOT loaded.  Because for our safety purposes it is always loaded.  Be safe and happy hunting.
