Enriching African Volunteer Work

If you have a free period of time coming up in the future and you are unsure how to make the most of it, why not try something enjoyable, exciting and best of all helping make a difference. Imagine taking a trip that will help others benefit from your skills and expertise. One way you are able to achieve this is by volunteering abroad working with orphans, teaching children in schools and many other activities.

There are lots of volunteer organisations dotted all around the world who specialise in sending people to volunteer in Africa. To a large degree where you go depends on where the company works and what projects it has to offer.

Whether you are volunteering in Malawi or volunteering in Kenya, if you any skills that will directly benefit the project then it is a good idea to make the company aware so they can place you accordingly. It is not a requirement that you must be a skilled professional. All you need is to be able to work with others, have a good work drive and have the will to help people who really need it.

Although the majority of volunteer organisations do not pay a salary, you benefit from the project in other ways. You will be able to rely on some basic support of infrastructure from your volunteer organisation throughout your trip. Make sure before you travel you are aware of the help and support you will be getting and also what kind of foods you will be eating when you are away volunteering in Mombasa or where ever it is you will be volunteering. Ensure that the company you are travelling with are able to help you in any form of emergency and find out how they can help you if you get on the wrong side of the law.

Africa can certainly present some hazards to people who are not seasoned travellers. As the continent is host to many developing countries it comes as no surprise to learn that many of these places are suffering extreme poverty and robberies and muggings are quite rife. The golden rule of travelling around Africa is never carry more cash than you actually need.
